Netflix For Preschoolers Set To Launch In The U.K.

Hopster
Depending on your perspective, the following statistics are either good for business or an indication that our newest generation is truly hooked on TV. According to a recent study, around 10% of British three and four-year-olds use a tablet at home and British kids in general watch more than 23 million hours of TV a day.

An audience that size means there are a lot of opportunities to make money and that is no doubt part of the reason a Netflix-like on-demand TV channel for preschoolers is preparing to launch in the U.K.

Hopster is an app-based subscription service that will launch in November. Founded by ex-Viacom executive Nick Walters, the service will launch with more than 800 full episodes of animated programming as well as games that are customized based on the viewing habits of the kids.

Programs already set for the service include "Babar," "Babar and the Adventures of Badou," "Little Bear," "Louis," "Madeline," "Max & Ruby" and "Maggie & The Ferocious Beast," "Monster Math Squad," "Paddington Bear," "Super Why" and  "64 Zoo Lane."

Hopster will initially launch exclusively in the U.K., but plans are to roll out the service internationally in 2014.
